NASA gets in the comic-nerd spirit with their image of the day attributed to the upcoming “Green Lantern” movie.
The NASA Web site states:
“This glowing emerald nebula seen by NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope is reminiscent of the glowing ring wielded by the superhero Green Lantern. In the comic books, the diminutive Guardians of the Planet ‘Oa’ forged his power ring, but astronomers believe rings like this are actually sculpted by the powerful light of giant ‘O’ stars, the most massive type of star known to exist.”
The scientists at the site may be bigger DC Comics fans than The Washington Post’s reviewer, Mark Jenkins, who writes, “No matter how many times he’s been reimagined, Green Lantern retains a crucial flaw: He’s a DC Comics character, without the weaknesses and neuroses that make Marvel Comics heroes interesting (sometimes even on screen).”
